How does a creditor decide if I am credit worthy?

Every creditor uses a different formula for determining credit worthiness. Generally they look at the length of your credit history as well as the percent of your income that goes towards your paying debt. Some other things they may look at are if you own a house or a car. Of course they will try to determine your ability to pay your debt based on how often you have been late on your other accounts. Lenders will also look at your employment history.
